Basic Linear Algebra Subprograms
BLAS (Basic Linear Algebra Subprograms) is a standardized set of low-level operations often found in computational kernels. This library is divided into three levels: level 1: are routines about vector-scalar operations, level 2: are about matrix-vector operations, level 3: are about matrix-matrix operations. On high performance machines the level 2 and 3 Blas are more efficient than level 1. It has become common use among computer vendors to make an optimized version of the Blas routines for the specific machines. Basic Linear Algebra Subprograms
